Resilience is one of the three most important skills one can develop, combined with (among other traits) creativity and empathy. Especially in severely dramatic and dangerous situations, resilience is key. But it's not enough. Surviving is not thriving. Barely staying alive while giving it your all can only be upheld for so long. More is needed. Furthermore, praising a survivor's resilience can be detrimental. Making informed decisions on how to act and what to say is of vital importance. I'll expand on these issues in this article.

Meer lezenEmpathy, as most of us know, is the ability to imagine what someone feels, while going through something, and being able to empathize with that person's situation, by imagining yourself in that person's situation. Most people do have the natural ability to empathize, so let's assume that both of us do have it. We also notice people having short fuses more often. In the supermarket someone bumps into you without a mask, and coughs, with virus-infused splatter in a 5 feet radius, aerosols not included. This can be very annoying. And dangerous. No bueno. But can you still empathize with someone's discomfort of coughing uncontrollably?

The main thought of today is: You are not what you have, and that's a BIG reassurance! Many people miss something, or a lot, of what they had in 'the old days', before you know what hit the globe. Perhaps it's a healthy turnover and good business, big in real life audiences for your keynotes, summer holidays, and that extra social ecosystem which is the office.
