Instead of praising resilience, nurture resilience by helping wisely

Resilience is one of the three most important skills one can develop, combined with (among other traits) creativity and empathy. Especially in severely dramatic and dangerous situations, resilience is key. But it's not enough. Surviving is not thriving. Barely staying alive while giving it your all can only be upheld for so long. More is needed. Furthermore, praising a survivor's resilience can be detrimental. Making informed decisions on how to act and what to say is of vital importance. I'll expand on these issues in this article.

How to take resilient action on challenging moments

Maybe you can relate to this: you want to (or have to) do something quite challenging, which you haven't done ever before. And you get in your own way. You know you are probably able to pull it off, but something is just holding you back. For instance, your self-confidence is just lacking a bit of spark at the moment. Or you’ve recently made a mistake, in public or otherwise, which has made you a little more insecure and vulnerable.
