WHAT MAKES LANDSCAPES UNIQUE AND RECOGNISABLE? CAN WE CREATE LANDSCAPES THAT MAKE US WANT TO GO THERE, AND PERHAPS USE THESE AS INSPIRATION FOR DEFINING WHERE WE FIND OUR SENSE OF BELONGING? WHERE DO YOU TAKE ROOT?

Thank you for visiting ZOHO EXPO in Rotterdam. It means a great deal to me to connect with you. We all explore options and visions for our future - whatever this may entail. We have many challenges ahead of us, and this prompts us all to use our creativity, empathy and resilience, to find an answer to any further predicament (and blessing) that we might face.

In this fascinating albeit turbulent era, we experiment regardless, trying and partially succeeding in remaining playful, and finding joy in creating. Because creation is the opposite of destruction, illness and loss. This principle is a beautiful thing, worth cherishing.

This collection of landscapes was created in the Summer of 2022, when I was dealing with severe physical illness, up to a point where I wasn’t certain the ailment would ever heal. Creating new perspectives and imaginary lands where I would actually wanted to go, helped me cope. The act of creating pieces while my physical body was doing quite the opposite, also strengthened my resolve to heal, and tapped into my nurtured resilience.

These landscapes are made using a combination of techniques: sketching, painting, photography, photo editing, voluntary entanglement with artificial intelligence. The final pieces are prints on canvas and prints on plexiglass.
